What’s behind your money fears?

In our last blog post, we discussed some signs that you have issues with money. Today we’re going to delve into what’s behind some of those feelings. Most of us have some conflicting ideas about money. For example, on the one hand, we may want to become wealthy, but on the other hand, we may feel disdain for wealthy individuals because we perceive them to be greedy and all about profit. In order to come to grips with your feelings about money, which you must do in order to grow your business, it’s important to recognize the ideas behind them.

Sign: You feel uncomfortable when someone asks you how much you charge.

What it Could Indicate: You don’t believe your product or service is worthy of financial compensation; you don’t feel worthy of receiving financial compensation for your gifts.

Sign: You feel like ‘the bad guy’ if you have to remind someone that it’s time to pay up for a service.

What it Could Indicate: You believe that people that expect compensation for their work are ‘bad people,’ or possibly less spiritual.  You believe spiritual people should work for free.

Sign: You hate thinking about the financial aspects of your business.

What it Could Indicate: You aren’t comfortable dealing with the financial aspects of your business. You’re not knowledgeable enough about how to deal with money.

Sign: You frequently run out of money at the end of the month.

What it Could Indicate: You’re not knowledgeable enough about how to deal with money. You’re not charging enough, which could indicate beliefs that you don’t deserve ample compensation for your work.

Sign: You have no idea how much it costs to run your business.

What it Could Indicate: You’re not knowledgeable enough about how to deal with money, or how to run a business. You don’t consider your service to be a business, but rather a hobby. [There’s nothing wrong with that unless you’re trying to make a living doing it.]

Sign: You charge a lower price than you really want to charge.

What it Could Indicate: The key word here is ‘want’ because in this case, you know that you should charge more than you do. Chances are you have issues of self-worth. You don’t believe you’re worthy of charging more for your services.

Sign: You resent other lightworkers who charge more for their services.

What it Could Indicate: This sounds like envy, and the greater purpose of envy is to point out what we truly want in our lives but are afraid we can’t have.  The reason you believe you can’t charge more for your services again likely has to do with worthiness and your belief that your services are not worth ample financial compensation.

Sign: You frequently let people pay too little, pay late or get away with not paying at all.

What it Could Indicate: While this could simply indicate a giving personality, if you’re constantly allowing customers to receive services for free and it’s hurting your ability to grow your business, this is likely yet another issue of worthiness. Do you believe that you deserve to get paid in full and on time for the work that you do?

Sign: You feel guilty for charging for your services at all.

What it Could Indicate: You don’t believe your product or service is worthy of financial compensation; you don’t feel worthy of receiving financial compensation for your gifts.

Sign: You always let others set your rates

What it Could Indicate: You believe your value is based on what others see in you. If others approve of what you’re doing, then all is well. If they don’t, then something must be wrong with your product or service to make it unworthy.

If any of these sound like you, take some time to think about whether your concerns about money run deeper than you thought.

  1. This is right on point! These examples are the reasons i’m cutting some clients off now due to the fact that they pay late.

  2. I believe i will start focusing on clients that do pay on time and be grateful for the ones i do have that pay in full and on time.
